Proofreading and editing

A text can be correct and still not work: sentences that run too long, terms used inconsistently, a tone that does not match the reader. Proofreading corrects what is wrong; editing improves what is right but could be better. At dePapier Translations we do one or the other, or both, depending on the text and its purpose.

What we proofread

We work with original texts and with translations done by others:

  • Theses, dissertations and academic articles

  • Business texts: reports, proposals, presentations and website content

  • Applications: cover letters, CVs and letters of introduction

  • Books and authors’ texts before publication

  • Existing translations, checked against the original

Proofreading or editing: what is the difference?

Proofreading corrects spelling, grammar, punctuation and typos, and applies the spelling convention requested. The text stays as it is; only the errors are removed.

Editing goes further: it improves clarity, consistency of terminology, sentence rhythm and suitability for the audience. The content is the same, but the text becomes easier to read. State in your request which of the two you want; if in doubt, we will propose the most suitable option in the quote.
